Join us for a book discussion of “Summer”, Edith Wharton’s evocative 1917 novel. Often described as one of Wharton’s most emotionally raw works, the group will explore Wharton’s unflinching portrayal of class, gender, and moral judgment, as well as the novel’s striking sense of place and its departure from the society novels for which she is best known.
This discussion is part of 250 Years of American Authors, a limited book discussion series honoring the richness and complexity of American literature in recognition of the nationwide 2026 Semiquincentennial. Through this series, we explore authors whose words shaped—and continue to challenge—our understanding of American identity, freedom, and history.
All are welcome to attend. Registration is required.
