Veterans Repertory Theater Veterans Repertory Theater is an organization unlike any other in both the art and veteran communities. Founded in February 2021, Veterans Repertory Theater aims to reinvigorate American theater through developing and producing the work of veteran writers and artists. Through fully produced plays, staged readings, immersive art shows and multimedia festivals, VetRep delivers to audiences intimate, impactful live performances as whimsical, hilarious, absurdist, and jarring as the veteran community that created them. In addition, VetRep offers the Savage Wonder literary blog and Savage Wonder podcast. Our literary blog focuses on veteran writers and poets, while our podcast features long-form, one-on-one conversations with veterans in the arts. All of VetRep’s staff and playwrights must be current or former military, law enforcement, fire/EMS, intelligence services, foreign service, DoD employees and contractors or immediate family members. We are continually looking for writers and artists to feature on the Savage Wonder Blog, and we are open for submissions to our Playwriting competition year-round. Additionally, we are always seeking veterans who are actors and other theater professionals, especially in the southern NY area, for the many live performances we have throughout the year. Find out more about VetRep, and how you can submit your work here. Program Description: Veterans Repertory Theater offers veterans the opportunity to submit their full-length or 10-minute plays to our annual playwriting competition. Playwriting competition Veterans can also submit their work (poetry, short stories, visual art) to our daily Savage Wonder Literary Blog. Veterans can also simply subscribe (for free) to read interesting veteran contributions daily. Savage Wonder Literary Blog Veterans can tune in to a monthly Instagram Live show called Write Loud where veteran writers and poets read their work live. Next show is May 26 at 8PM EST! Write Loud Veterans can also tune in to the Savage Wonder Podcast where founder Chris Meyer interviews veterans in the arts from all branches and all artistic mediums. Savage Wonder Podcast Eligibility: Veterans need to have an interest in the arts and either wish to contribute their works or support fellow veteran artists (or both!). Our veteran-authored and established plays are amazing intimate performances. We have a show every Saturday night from April - December (minus August). Each show runs for 4 Saturdays. If you know of a veteran who would like to attend a performance, he/she does not need to purchase a ticket (unless they’d like to make a donation), they can reach out to Darlene to reserve them a seat (or two if they are bringing someone along!). In addition to the ways in which veterans can interact with us if they are artists, we are also looking for veterans (and immediate family members) to fill many apprenticeship, internship and part-time positions over the coming months.
